I'm not sure that this is cottage related, but it is me related, so I suppose it fits....my wife has me convinced that we need to get a "Wii" which, to the unwashed, such as me, is a Nintendo game system, not unlike the old Nintendo Mario Brothers games that I used to play when the kids were young. Of course, they were much better than me, so was my wife. I am not, in any sense of the words, a game master....in fact, I am Nintendo challenged most of the time. With the children all but grown and gone, keeping up with these new fangled electronic games and such is a good deal more difficult. I know more about splitting wood than playing Rock Band.....
But...the word is out, everyone is playing games on the Wii video game system (pronounced "we") Apparently as games go, the Wii has several features and an extensive list of playable titles. These game machines play two disc formats in a single, self-loading media bay, a processing chip from IBM and a graphics chip from ATI. It's backwards compatible with all Nintendo GameCube games and most peripherals and has a built-in Wi-Fi access for easy connection to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection gaming service This one comes with a Wii Sports game.
Amazon is selling Wii for about $280, but you can be sure that as Christmas comes closer, that price may go up along with the difficulty in obtaining one.
My buddy, who is a gamer, and to me anyway, somewhat of an expert in matters like this is telling me that my money would be better spent on Playstation 3 80GB which he feels is a better deal considering what you get. The PlayStation 3 80GB system, includes a dualshock 3 wireless controller, free PlayStation Network membership, internet ready Wi-Fi, and 80GB of hard disk storage for all your games, music, videos, and photos. Every PlayStation 3 comes with a built-in Blu-ray player to give you the best high-definition viewing experience and pristine picture quality. Plus, the PlayStation 3 can play your entire catalog of CDs and DVDs. Aha! I don't know if the Wii can do all that. The PlayStation 3 is a little more expensive, at around $400, but if it is better...well...I dunno...it's tough to figure this stuff out without a kid in the family......
The funny thing is, what I keep hearing from the folks who have these games is how "real" it is...apparently with Wii, you actually do the movements, for example, when you are bowling, you stand up and well...bowl...and tennis...well...the same idea...of course. I think there is even a fishing rod thingy for the fishing game, just like going fishing.....
Excuse me, but when did I have to 'pretend' I was bowling, playing tennis or gulp...fishing? If I want to go bowling, I can drop down to the local bowling alley and actually throw bowling balls down the lanes at the pins, if I want to go fishing, well, I can get in the boat and go fishing....in actual water, with actual fish, and tennis...well...um...I never did care much for tennis, although I do like to watch girls play tennis in those little short skirts....in real life....On the other hand, I suppose if I had one of these games, got my wife hooked on it, I could install it at the cottage and while she is happily trying to smack a virtual tennis ball with a virtual racket, I could go fishing...
Ahh....I think I will use the money for a new Hardy Demon Fly Reel It's about the same price, and you can use it around the water....
Getting all my ducks in a row!
