Reading Woodsrunners Trail

From time to time I drop in on some of the other outdoorsy type bloggers, and read the occasional post, surf around their sites, see what they are doing, look at the pictures etc and if I like their work, add them to the sites I follow, or even my link list. The problem is, sometimes I don't always take the time to give them a good read or go back and finish reading, and that means I sometimes miss out on something good. That is what happened when I added Woodsrunners Trail to my "Blogs I Follow" list, I never got a chance to go back and really read it....until tonight.

I have to tell you, I was pleasantly impressed with Woodsrunners Trail and ended up reading every post, all 44 posts he has up so far(no wonder I am so late posting to my own blog) I really love his blog name...wish I had thought of it, reminds me of the early French fur trappers here in Canada, who were called, "Courieur de Blois" which translates to "Runners of the Woods" which I believe is the inspiration for Woodsrunners title.

Woodsrunner is a 40 something male from Western New York State. He is a man for all seasons, and has learned a multitude of nice to have skills over the years, many of which he posts about, and many of which are of interest to me. Everything from converting an old single shot shotgun to make it more versatile to how to dry seeds from your garden to plant the next year, he even tells us the best way to store them.

I'd say Woods is one of those self sufficient guys that we all need to know at least one of, and two is even better. Resourceful, knowledgable about "stuff" and able to turn his hand to pretty much whatever he needs to do to get the job done. The best part is, not only is he talented and capable, he's opinionated, and I love some of his opinion posts, especially the ring of truth in posts like The Sad State of The American Male and Tribute To A Hell Box which is something every cottager needs. Woods explains why these boxes are important and how to make the magic work in yours. I suggest you read his first post, called, Introductions It really gives you an great self portrait of Woodsrunner.

In addition to opinion, Woods offers a good deal of homespun, homestead knowledge, the kind of thing that so many of us lack today, but need more of, including the one I mentioned about about How To Save A Seed I'm doing this myself this year with some apple seeds, I am going to have an orchard at the camp if it kills me....It will be even better if I can start it from seeds myself. Might take a little longer though.

While you are at it, Wood's wife also has a very informative blog, called, ThirtyFiveByNinety

Check them out, take your time and read carefully, there is a lot to learn from these two!

Thanks for the positive review. I'm enjoying your blog also. You are correct in the origins of my title. In future posts I'm hoping to talk about edible wild plants that are easy to identify, making home made stuff for muzzleloaders from casting round balls and natural bullet lubes, to more basic gunsmithing.
